What is the Hongkong Prize?
If you’re not familiar with hongkong prize, it is a lottery-like competition where players compete for a chance to win HK$100 million. It’s not as easy as it sounds, however, as players must submit their entries to a panel of judges. To enter, you must fill out the official entry form and meet all the requirements. Then, you’ll be notified if you’ve won.
The winners are announced at an award ceremony, which takes place in the presence of representatives of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government and the sponsoring enterprise, as well as prominent figures. The judging criteria include scientific and technological innovation achievements, as well as the transformation and social or economic value created. The winners are selected by a jury panel that consists of distinguished scientists and technologists from the Hong Kong community.
To make the prize as fair as possible, a number of measures are taken into account to ensure that the draw is conducted properly. For example, employees of HKJC’s security and customer service departments rigorously check and test all materials involved in the process, from boxing to transport. In addition, the balls used for the draw are weighed and examined by X-ray on a regular basis. Finally, the same set of balls is not used for two consecutive draws.
If there is no winner of the first prize, the money that would have been paid out for the prize will be added to a jackpot fund. This can build up to about HK$100 million (compared to the normal HK$8 million for the 1st division). Then, the next draw will be held as usual, except that the jackpot fund will be awarded to the winner.
In order to ensure that the winner is a deserving scientist, the judging committee will take into account the candidate’s academic achievement and research proposals. The panel will also evaluate the independence of the research, creativity and innovation involved. Applicants should carefully consider their application and submit it by the deadline.
