Using the SGP data sgp, schools can compare the progress of their students across a variety of factors. For example, the sgp data sgp allows educators to see whether their students are growing at a faster rate than other students across their district, state or nation. This information is important for making informed decisions about student learning and development.
The sgp data sgp also contains additional information that can be used to improve teacher professional practice. For example, the sgpData_INSTRUCTOR_NUMBER is an anonymized lookup table that provides instructor information associated with each student test record. Teachers may use this information to determine whether their students are being taught by a skilled or less-skilled instructor. Alternatively, the sgpData_STUDENTS_PERCENTILE_TABLE provides teachers with the percentiles for their students in comparison to other students across different grades and demographic groups. This helps teachers understand the relative performance of their students, and helps them identify the most appropriate instructional strategies to employ in their classrooms.
In addition to these tables, the sgpdata sgp package includes a number of other tools for conducting SGP analyses. These include the lower level functions studentGrowthPercentiles and studentGrowthProjections, as well as higher level wrapper functions that simplify the analysis process. These higher level functions require that the sgpdata sgp data be formatted in the LONG data format. For operational SGP analyses, we strongly recommend that users utilize the LONG data format as it offers a number of advantages when managing SGP analysis processes on an ongoing basis.
While it is possible to conduct SGP calculations with WIDE formatted data, we strongly encourage the use of the LONG data format for operational analyses. This will reduce the amount of back and forth between data preparation and analyses, and will make it much easier to update existing analyses with new years of data. In fact, any errors that occur during the SGP calculation process generally revert to issues with data preparation.
The sgpdata sgp also provides a variety of visualization tools that can be used to aid in the understanding of SGP results. For example, the sgpdata sgp graphing tool provides users with the ability to display and analyze a range of statistics, including school-level mean and median SGPs. The sgpdata graphing tool can be found in the “Graphs” tab of the sgpdata sgp web application.
As with the other tables, a variety of filtering options can be applied to sgpdata graphs. This includes filters for date ranges, content areas, student groups and more. In addition, the sgpdata graphing tool also supports drill down functionality to display individual student data. The drill down functionality is particularly useful for analyzing student data over time and for monitoring trends in student performance. This data can be extremely useful in identifying the root causes of underperformance and developing effective interventions to address them. In addition, the sgpdata graphic tool can be useful for comparing the performance of student groups to determine if there are specific challenges within a group that need to be addressed.
