The Basics of Roullete

Roullete (pronounced: roh-LAH-tay) is one of the world’s most popular casino games, offering glamour, mystery and excitement to players. The game is simple to learn and offers a surprising depth of strategy for serious betters. The goal of the game is to correctly guess which number or type of bet the ball will land on when the wheel spins. Players can bet on a single number, various groupings of numbers, whether the number is odd or even, and more. The game is played with a circular, numbered wheel that is spun by the dealer and a small ball that is tossed onto it while the wheel is in motion. If the ball lands in a pocket containing a bet, the player wins.

The Roulette table is divided into several sections, with bets made by placing chips on the appropriate layout. The chips are color-coded to indicate their value, with red and black being the most common colors. Each section of the roulette table represents a different type of bet, with each one offering varying odds and payouts. Inside bets have a higher house edge than outside bets, but offer much larger payouts when won.

Before the start of each round, players must purchase a roulette chip from the dealer (also known as a “croupier”). The dealer will ask for the denomination that you wish to designate for each bet and will mark your colored chip accordingly. Once you have purchased your chips, the dealer will clear off all losing bets and will pay out winners. It is recommended that you play within a pre-established budget and do not dip into winnings to place additional bets.

The Roulette wheel consists of a solid, convex wooden disk with thirty-six metal compartments painted alternately red and black, and two green compartments that are labelled 0 and 00 on American wheels. The numbers are arranged nonconsecutively around the perimeter of the wheel and grouped into three dozen groups of 12 numbers each. The dozens are designated by placing your chips on either the first, second or third dozen on the table map. The resulting bet pays 1-1. The 0 and 00 are considered to be outside bets, as they do not fall into any of the categories of numbers in the table.
