What is Domino?

Domino is a game played with a set of small rectangular wood or plastic blocks, each marked with dots that resemble those on dice. The tiles can be arranged in a variety of ways to create different games. The first player to get rid of all their tiles wins. The games can be as simple or as complicated as the players wish. There are scoring games, blocking games and even games that duplicate card games–all of which help to develop number recognition and math skills.

When playing domino, it is important to remember that each tile has a side that either shows a number or is blank. The numbers on the sides are called pips and determine what value the tile has in the game. A domino with a number on one side must be matched with another domino that has the same number. If a domino has no number on its side, it is called a wild tile and can be ascribed any value. During a domino game, it is best to play on a hard surface such as a table or floor, as this makes it easier for the pips to stand upright.

The rules of domino are generally the same in every game, but variations do exist. Some games use the entire set of dominoes while others only utilize certain tiles, such as the ones with all six pips on their faces. It is also common for a game to be altered based on the amount of players involved or what type of environment the game is being played in.

Some of the most popular domino games involve drawing or counting pips on the ends of the tiles to score points. Those with a large collection of dominoes can also enjoy scoring games, such as bergen or muggins, where the goal is to attach one’s dominoes to those already on the table in such a way that the sum of the exposed ends is divisible by five or three.

Dominoes are fun to set up in straight lines or curved ones, grids that form pictures, stacked walls and 3-D structures like towers and pyramids. Many people who love creating domino art make test versions of their creations on a flat piece of paper. This helps them correct any areas that may not be working as intended.

Lily Hevesh, a professional domino artist, has a YouTube channel that showcases her impressive designs. Her largest creations take several nail-biting minutes to fall. Hevesh says that the key to her spectacular domino setups is understanding how physics works. She explains that gravity is the main force that pulls the dominoes toward the ground, which then sets off a chain reaction.

The founder of Domino’s Pizza, David Brandon, believed that the best way to market his company was to open restaurants in areas near college campuses. This strategy fueled Domino’s growth, and the company now has over 200 stores. The company’s current CEO, Don Meij, has continued this success by focusing on leadership and management. He has made the decision to not only attend Domino’s employee training sessions, but has also participated in some of their delivery services to better understand the issues that employees face.
