The Best Hong Kong Pools

Forget the chilly sea water of the Atlantic – Hong Kong has a wealth of fabulous swimming pools. From public pools to those within residential complexes and members clubs (or even the ultimate ocean), there are plenty of options to choose from.

But not all are equal. In fact, Hong Kong’s consumer watchdog has urged consumers to be wary of privately run pet swimming pools amid reports of dogs feeling unwell and even dying after visiting them. It also found some operators did not provide clear information on hygiene, water temperature, depth and prices. Some even inserted exemption clauses to escape liabilities.

The best hk pools have something to offer everyone, including the kids. Some have a tropical feel, complete with a waterfall at the shallow end of the pool. Others are designed for serious swimmers with smart features such as a retractable roof, an underwater viewing panel and a poolside bar.

One of the best is in the glitzy Peninsula Hotel, which offers stunning views over Victoria Harbour. The pool itself is serene and sophisticated with clever LED screens depicting clouds on the ceiling. The ritzy place is open by day, but comes into its own at night when the lights of Victoria Harbour form a spectacular backdrop.

Another gem is Kowloon Park Swimming Pool in Tsim Sha Tsui. Described by many as one of the best swimming pool complexes in Hong Kong, it offers four indoor heated pools, including an Olympic-sized main pool and two training pools, plus outdoor leisure pools. There are also several changing rooms for families, and a cafe on-site.

If you’re looking for a more family-friendly pool experience, head to Sai Kung. Its leisure pool area is popular with families, with a fountain and water slides of various sizes to keep the kids entertained. Plus, it’s the perfect spot to soak up some sunshine, especially in the afternoon when there are often lovely views of the bay.

For those who want to stay in shape, there are a number of health clubs and sports centres that offer indoor and outdoor pools. Some offer fitness classes, while others are more for purely recreational use. Most of the clubs are very reasonably priced, and memberships include free use of their indoor pools.

While there are many hk pools to choose from, not all are created equal. Be sure to check out the safety and hygiene standards before you sign up. And remember to take a towel, sunscreen and a change of clothes. You’ll thank yourself later!
